Getting started
Do I need both products?
No. Freebies Engine and Experiment Engine each work on their own, with their own plans, trial and bill. Use one, or both. Freebies Engine runs offers every day; Experiment Engine proves which offer earns more. See both on the Features page.
Can I keep a winning test running?
Partly. For template, price and checkout tests, apply the winning version to everyone from the results page and keep watching it; the test keeps measuring after you apply it. For offer and discount winners, recreate the offer in Freebies Engine from a template. To run the same idea every day with a stacking order and schedules, build it in Freebies Engine.
Do I need two accounts?
Freebies Engine and Experiment Engine both use your Log Studio Lab account, so there is no separate Experiment Enginelogin to manage.
Can I run it on several stores?
Yes. Your account connects every Shopify store you manage, and each store has its own plan, offers and team. See them all in your account home.
Can I see it before I install?
Yes. Book a demo and we'll build an offer on a sample store with you.
Offers
Can shoppers choose the gift?
Yes. Show a gift selector so shoppers pick from the gifts you allow, or add one gift automatically.
What if the gift sells out?
Add a fallback gift. If every gift is out of stock, Freebies Engine shows a warning in the app and doesn't promise the gift to shoppers.
Can a shopper fake a free gift?
No. Every gift is tied to its offer, its variants and its limits, and Shopify checks the cart again at checkout.
Do bundles change my inventory?
No. A bundle is the products you already sell, grouped in the cart and priced together. Inventory stays on the products. Each bundle line carries a visible Bundle label on the order, so your team knows what goes together.
Can I bundle variants?
Yes. Choose specific variants, or let shoppers pick them. Bundles and Frequently Bought Together add the variant the shopper selected, and never swap in a sold-out one. For pack sizes, use the Multipack block: shoppers choose a pack and, for a product with variants, a variant for each unit.
Can I run an offer only on certain days or hours?
Yes. Turn on Repeat weekly on the Schedule step, pick the days, and choose all day or a time window. It runs in your store's time zone, daylight saving included. Outside the window the offer stays live in your list, but shoppers do not see it and it does not apply. Cart and checkout switch within about a minute.
What are frequently bought together picks based on?
You can choose the products yourself, or use Automatic (bought together), which learns from your paid orders. A product is suggested only after at least 3 orders include it with the viewed product, and only in-stock items show. Until then the block shows the fallback products you chose.
Can I sell multipacks?
Yes. The Multipack block shows a Choose your pack picker on the product page, with one choice per pack size. For a product with variants, the shopper picks a variant for each unit, and the discount counts the units together. You can also add an add-on checkbox for a related item.
Can I show my offers on the storefront before the cart?
Yes. Turn on an announcement bar, an offer badge and a crossed-out price in the offer's Display step. The bar sits at the bottom of the screen. The badge and the crossed-out price show on the product page.
Can I limit how often an offer is used?
Yes. Set limits per order and per customer, and decide what happens when a gift runs out. Limits are enforced at checkout.
Can I use different amounts in different currencies?
Yes. Set an exact amount for each currency, and on Pro target specific Markets. Subscription offers use your store's currency.
Does it work with Shopify Flow?
Yes. Two triggers are available: Offer applied to an order and Gift added to an order. Use them to tag orders, notify your team or hand the event to a loyalty app that has a Flow action.
Where do upsells show?
On product pages as frequently bought together, inside checkout, and as a card on the thank-you page that links to the product with your discount applied.
Does it work with discount codes?
Yes. Offers apply automatically and combine with codes your customers enter according to each offer's combination settings: for each offer you choose which kinds of code can stack with it (product, order or shipping). The review step shows Works with discount codes before you publish. Because Shopify treats your offers as one app discount, the most restrictive offer sets the rule for all of them. The stacking order and the cart simulator show which offers apply together.
How many codes can I create?
One code, or thousands of unique codes in bulk on Growth. For bulk, you choose a prefix, a length and the characters, and export the codes as CSV. A code offer can also switch to automatic, with no code needed, and your codes are kept.
What does the shopper see at checkout?
The discount message you write, up to 60 characters. If you leave it empty, they see the offer name.
What counts as attributed in analytics?
An order counts when one of your offers applied at checkout. The definition is shown next to every number, and upsells use the same one. You can also compare orders with an offer to orders without: revenue, order count and average order value. It is a comparison, not proof; to prove an offer works, test it in Experiment Engine.
How fresh is the analytics data? Can I export it?
Orders appear as Shopify reports them, and each page shows when it was last updated. Attributed orders export to CSV for Admins and Owners.
Billing & trial
How am I billed?
Through Shopify. Charges appear on your store's Shopify invoice every 30 days, in USD, and you approve each subscription in Shopify. We never see a card. Plans are a flat monthly price with no fee per order. The trial end date shows on the Plan and billing page, and a banner appears 3 days before it. Uninstall the app and billing stops. Freebies Engine is billed per store; Experiment Engine is billed on its own subscription, so there is no single bill for both.
Do you charge per order?
No. One flat price every 30 days, no per-order fees and no share of your revenue. You approve the charge in Shopify, and uninstalling cancels it.
How do I get help?
We answer within 1 business day. Email us from the Help menu in the app or from the contact page, or book a demo before you install. You can also ask for set-up help from the Help menu.
What happens to my data if I uninstall?
Shopify cancels the subscription and billing stops. Your settings are kept if you reinstall, and a reinstall does not restart the trial. Shopify's data deletion requests are handled for you.
Is there a free trial?
Freebies Engine has a Free plan with no time limit, and a 15-day trial on Growth and Pro, once per store. Experiment Engine has its own plans and trial; see Experiment Engine plans.
How does the trial work?
Once per store, shared across Growth and Pro. You approve the subscription in Shopify; billing starts when the trial ends unless you cancel. Switching from a Growth trial to Pro keeps your remaining days.
Can I change plans?
Upgrades apply right away. Downgrades between paid plans take effect at the end of your billing period.
What happens to my offers if I downgrade?
Offers that use features of a higher plan, or go over your live-offer limit, are paused. You pick which offers stay live. Nothing is deleted, and paused offers come back when you upgrade.
What about development stores?
Test charges are free on Shopify development stores.
What's in Enterprise?
Custom limits and features, several stores and onboarding. Contact sales and we'll reply within one business day.
Shopify & security
Which Shopify plans work? Do I need Shopify Plus?
Freebies Engine works on every Shopify plan. Only the checkout upsell needs Shopify Plus, and its template says so before you build it. Product-page and thank-you upsells don't.
Does it work with my theme, cart drawer or page builder?
Freebies Engine works with Online Store 2.0 themes. Most widgets appear through the app embed; bundles and some blocks are added in the theme editor. Widgets read your theme's colors and fonts with Match my theme, and you can pin any value. Offers re-check when a cart drawer changes the cart, and the Diagnostics page lists the cart drawers and page builders it finds on your home page. We have not tested every app, so check your own store with the steps in the help guide.
Can I use it on a headless storefront?
Yes. A storefront key (safe in a browser) lets your storefront ask what a cart qualifies for, and an admin key (server only) reads your offers. Create keys in Settings, API keys; each key is shown once and can be revoked. Offers that depend on the customer are evaluated as for a visitor you cannot identify, because a browser key cannot prove who the customer is.
Do you support Shopify Markets?
Yes. You can set the cart-value threshold per currency, and on Pro an offer can target specific Markets.
Who checks the discount at checkout?
Shopify does. Discounts are created for Shopify to apply, gift lines are checked again at checkout, and a hand-edited price or gift line is blocked. Read more in Security.
Experiment Engine
Will tests slow my store?
Test settings are served from a fast cache, and events are sent in batches so they don't slow checkout. If the Experiment Engine script fails to load, the page shows normally after a short timeout. Search and ad crawlers, such as Googlebot, are never put in a test and never load the price code.
What can I test?
Prices, discounts, shipping offers, page templates, checkout content, page content, landing pages (split URL) and Freebies Engine offers. You can test up to five versions at once, hold back a share of visitors as a baseline, and compare versions by profit per visitor. Content tests can combine two or three changes at once.
Will tests hurt my Google Shopping listings?
No. A price test never changes the price in Shopify, so your Merchant Center and Meta feeds keep sending the original price. Search and ad crawlers, including Googlebot and Google's shopping and ads crawlers, are never put in a test. Do not point a feed rule or a price edit at test products while a test runs.
Can I send results to GA4 or Klaviyo?
Yes. Assignments go to your data layer once a shopper accepts analytics cookies, so you can build a GA4 audience for each version. Experiment Engine can also send assignments to GA4 directly, and send an Experiment Viewed event to Klaviyo.
Can I test more than two versions?
Yes, up to five versions at once, with an optional baseline of visitors who see no change. Content tests can also combine two or three changes at once.
What is a multivariate (combination) test?
It tests several changes at once. You change two or three elements of a page, such as the headline, the image and the button text, and Experiment Engine tries the combinations, up to eight. You see which element matters most and which combination wins, in one test. It works for content tests, and it needs more visitors than a simple A/B test because traffic is split across more versions.
What does "send more traffic to the leader" mean? Is it on by default?
It is optional and off by default. Every test uses a fixed split, such as 50/50. If you switch a test to send more traffic to the leader, the app gradually sends more new shoppers to the version that is winning, so fewer sales are lost while the test runs. Every version keeps at least 10% of traffic. It is not a controlled comparison, so use it when earning during the test matters more than a clean answer, and keep the fixed split when you want one.
Can I watch session recordings by version?
Yes. Tag Microsoft Clarity or Hotjar recordings with the version, then watch how shoppers use each one.
Is it GDPR-friendly?
Experiment Engine sends assignment events to your data layer only after a shopper accepts analytics cookies. Shoppers who have not accepted see the original and are not tracked. Shopify's customer data requests and deletions are handled for you. This describes how the product works; it is not legal advice.
Where do I open Experiment Engine?
Inside your Shopify admin, from the Shopify App Store. See what Experiment Engine does.
