Add product costs to see profit
Profit per visitor needs product costs, shipping and fees. Read costs from Shopify, upload a CSV and set per-order costs.
Profit per visitor is revenue minus product cost, shipping and fees, divided by visitors. A test can show profit only when at least 80% of sales have a known cost; below that, Results hides profit and says so.
- Open Settings and find Profit and costs. If Shopify has your product costs, it says Reading costs from Shopify. Select Sync now to refresh.
- To fill gaps, upload a CSV with a product identifier and a cost: the columns are sku or variant_id, and cost. Select Download template, Choose file, then Upload CSV.
- Review the rows, and select Import to save them. Costs in your CSV replace Shopify costs for the same products. The file can be up to 5 MB.
- Under Shipping and fees, set Shipping cost per order, Fee per order and Payment fee, then select Save costs.
- Coverage shows the share of sales in the last 30 days that have a known cost.
- Only admins can change costs. Members see Ask an admin to add costs.
- If your main goal is revenue per visitor, you can skip this step.
- Profit tracking is included in Experiment Engine Growth and up. See Plans.
