Sticky Add to Cart: keep the button in view

Keep an add to cart button in view on product pages once your theme's button scrolls away. Create it, switch on the app embed and check the sold out states.

Sticky Add to Cart shows a bar at the bottom or top of the screen once your theme's add to cart button scrolls out of view. It clicks your theme's own button, so your cart drawer, redirect or custom flow behaves exactly as before.

Set it up

  1. Open Mini apps, then Sticky Add to Cart, and create a sticky button.
  2. Pick a template: the button alone, or with the product photo, name and price. Set the words.
  3. Choose the look, the devices and where it sits. It is on for mobile by default. In the Behavior tab, Position sets bottom or top and an Offset to clear other apps.
  4. In Placement, use Open the theme editor, switch on Sticky Add to Cart under App embeds and save the theme.
  5. Come back to the app and select Check my theme. It tells you if the embed is on. Publish, then open a product page to see it.

Publish, pause and roll back

Shoppers see the last published version, never your draft. The bar at the top of the editor shows whether the button is not published, live or paused, and flags Changes not published when your draft differs from what shoppers see.

  1. Select Publish. After the first publish the button reads Publish changes.
  2. In the review dialog, check Required before publishing. Each item that is not done has a Fix link that closes the dialog and opens the tab where you fix it.
  3. Confirm with Publish or Publish changes. Shoppers see it on your store within a few minutes, and the bar shows Delivering to your store until it arrives.
  • Pause takes it off your store and keeps your settings and published versions. Resume brings back the version you last published; it does not publish your draft.
  • Versions lists the last few published versions. Roll back on a version puts it back in front of shoppers. Your draft is not changed, so publishing again brings your latest edits back.
  • Only admins can publish, pause, resume or roll back.
  • Publishing a second sticky button is refused while one is live. Pause the live one first.

The theme editor only switches the app embed on. The words and rules are set in the app.

What it does on the page

  • It follows the option a shopper picks and updates the photo, name and price.
  • On a product with options it says Choose options until a variant is chosen, and tapping it scrolls to the options.
  • When the chosen variant is sold out, the button says Sold out and cannot be clicked. You can change these words.
  • It hides while the cart is open, when the keyboard is up and at high zoom.

Limits

  • One sticky button can be live at a time. Pause the live one to publish another.
  • Each button label is up to 30 characters.

Billing

A mini app is billed through your Shopify subscription for the app. Shopify allows one active subscription per app, so your store has a single charge made of your App suite plan and every mini app you subscribe to. Only the store owner adds or removes a mini app, from its page in the app, and Shopify asks you to approve the new total. The price is shown on the mini app's page. Development stores use mini apps at no cost. See Mini apps: billing and ended subscriptions.

Troubleshooting

  • The embed is off: the app says it is added but switched off in your theme. Switch it on under App embeds and save the theme.
  • Two sticky buttons: your theme may have its own. Turn off the theme's version in Theme settings.
  • Nothing appears: the page needs the theme's own add to cart button inside the product form. A theme without one cannot use it.
  • It sits on top of another app: raise Offset under Position in the Behavior tab.

Common questions

Does it add to the cart by itself?

No. It clicks your theme's own add button, so any cart drawer or custom flow works the same.

How many can be live?

One at a time. Pause the live one to publish another.
