Freebies Engine
Works with cart drawers and page builders
What Freebies Engine by Log Studio Lab is designed to work with in cart drawers and page builders, how to check it on your store and the known limits.
Freebies Engine by Log Studio Lab is designed to work with the cart your theme ships and with most cart drawers and page builders. We have not tested every app, so check your own store with the steps below before you tell shoppers about an offer.
What it is designed to do
- Notice cart changes. Freebies Engine by Log Studio Lab watches the cart requests a theme or drawer makes (add, change, update and clear, through fetch or XHR) and re-checks your offers after each one.
- Listen for cart events. It also reacts to the cart events themes and drawer apps publish on the page: cart:updated, cart:refresh, cart:change and cart:update, and the cart event of a popular upsell app.
- Add the gift on its own. When a cart qualifies, the gift is added through Shopify's cart, so a drawer that reads the cart from Shopify shows it after its next refresh.
- Keep checkout discounts working. Discounts are applied by Shopify at checkout, whatever cart or page builder the shopper used.
- Show in a page builder. The gift selector, progress bar and other blocks can be placed as theme blocks, so a page builder that renders theme app blocks can show them.
Check it on your store
- Open Diagnostics from the Developer tools menu. The Cart drawers and page builders check lists the drawer or builder apps we find on your home page.
- Open your storefront in a private window and add a product that qualifies for an offer, using the same button shoppers use.
- Open the cart drawer. Check that the gift is in the cart and that the progress bar or cart message shows.
- Remove the item and check that the gift is removed and the message updates.
- Go to checkout and check the discount is there.
Known limits
- Add to cart without a cart request. A button that adds a product without a form submit or a request to Shopify's cart, for example a cart that lives only in a script's memory, gives Freebies Engine by Log Studio Lab nothing to notice. The gift may appear only after the page reloads or the cart changes again.
- Custom drawers. A drawer that draws its own copy of the cart may not show the gift, progress bar or message until it refreshes. Place the Cart progress bar block in the drawer's template if your drawer supports theme blocks, and contact support if it does not.
- Headless and fully custom carts. A store that does not use a Shopify theme cart is outside what Freebies Engine by Log Studio Lab is designed for. Checkout discounts still apply.
- Page builders that replace the product form. If the builder's add to cart button posts somewhere else, an offer on that page may not be noticed until the cart is next read.
If something looks wrong, see An offer is not showing on my store, then contact support with the drawer or builder name.
