Bundle Builder: set up a custom bundle
Let shoppers pick products step by step and earn a discount for a bigger bundle. Create it, place it on a page or section, and check it in your theme.
Bundle Builder lets shoppers assemble their own bundle on a dedicated page or in a section of your theme. Each step picks from its own products or collections, tiers give a bigger bundle a bigger discount, and a sticky summary keeps the total and the savings in view. The discount is applied by Shopify at checkout, not by theme code.
Set it up
- Open Mini apps, then Bundle Builder, and create a bundle builder. Each one has its own steps, tiers and look, and you can have more than one.
- In the steps, choose where the products come from: picked products, collections, tags, a vendor, a product type or the whole store.
- In Pricing, pick the discount: tiers by quantity, one percentage off the bundle, a fixed price for the bundle, or no discount. The editor warns you when no discount applies.
- Check Before you publish. It lists what is missing, such as a step with no products to choose from.
- In Placement, put it on its own page or in a section, as described below, then publish.
Add it to your theme
The theme editor only picks which bundle builder to show. Everything else is set in the app.
- On its own page: create a page in Shopify, tell the app its address, then use Open the theme editor and choose Bundle Builder for that page's template. Save the theme.
- As a section on another page: in your theme editor open the template, select Add section, then Apps, then Bundle Builder. Set Bundle builder handle to this bundle builder's handle, then save.
- Back in the app, the placement panel checks your theme and says whether it found the block. If it found a different bundle builder, set the handle to this one.
Publish, pause and roll back
Shoppers see the last published version, never your draft. The bar at the top of the editor shows whether the bundle builder is not published, live or paused, and flags Changes not published when your draft differs from what shoppers see.
- Select Publish. After the first publish the button reads Publish changes.
- In the review dialog, check Required before publishing. Each item that is not done has a Fix link that closes the dialog and opens the tab where you fix it.
- Confirm with Publish or Publish changes. Shoppers see it on your store within a few minutes, and the bar shows Delivering to your store until it arrives.
- Pause takes it off your store and keeps your settings and published versions. Resume brings back the version you last published; it does not publish your draft.
- Versions lists the last few published versions. Roll back on a version puts it back in front of shoppers. Your draft is not changed, so publishing again brings your latest edits back.
- Only admins can publish, pause, resume or roll back.
- If a bundle builder is not published or is paused, you choose what its page shows in Behavior: a message or a redirect.
Limits
| Item | Limit |
|---|---|
| Steps in one bundle builder | 10 |
| Discount tiers | 10 |
| Products picked one by one in a step | 100 |
| Collections in a step | 20 |
| Tags in a step | 20 |
| FAQ questions | 20 |
| Trust badges | 8 |
| Products per step that can take the checkout discount when a step draws from a collection, a search or the whole store | 250 |
A step that draws on more than 250 products gets no checkout discount, so keep large steps narrower with a collection or a tag. There is no separate cap on how many bundle builders can be live; the number each subscription covers is shown on the mini app's page.
Billing
A mini app is billed through your Shopify subscription for the app. Shopify allows one active subscription per app, so your store has a single charge made of your App suite plan and every mini app you subscribe to. Only the store owner adds or removes a mini app, from its page in the app, and Shopify asks you to approve the new total. The price is shown on the mini app's page. Development stores use mini apps at no cost. See Mini apps: billing and ended subscriptions.
Troubleshooting
- The block does not show: the bundle builder is still a draft, or the theme has no Bundle Builder block with its handle. Use the placement check, then save the theme.
- A product is sold out: in the Behavior and Rules settings you choose whether sold-out products show as unavailable or are hidden, and whether an out of stock item blocks adding or is removed.
- No discount at checkout: the pricing mode is set to no discount, or a step is over 250 products.
- Shopify did not let the app read your theme: open the app again and approve the updated permissions.
Common questions
Does Bundle Builder change my theme code?
No. It is added as a page and as a section that you place in the theme editor.
Can I run more than one bundle builder?
Yes. Each one has its own steps, tiers and placement.
