Subscription Perks for Shopify Stores
Price each delivery of a Shopify subscription differently: when cycle pricing fits, how the template works and the shipping and gift options to consider.
A subscription perk changes what a subscriber gets as deliveries go on. The common shape is a strong first box, to win the signup, and a smaller reward after that, to keep the subscription profitable.
When it fits
- You sell something people reorder, such as coffee, supplements or pet food.
- The first delivery is where shoppers hesitate, so a stronger opening offer helps.
- You want the reward to settle at a level you can sustain.
How the templates build it
Two templates cover the core cases:
- Subscription cycle pricing is described as "Different prices for each delivery of a subscription." Its example is a percentage off the first box, then a smaller fixed amount off after it.
- Skio shipping per cycle is described as "Set shipping prices per Skio delivery." It requires Skio subscriptions, and the template page says so before you build.
A one-time gift can sit on top of either through the Gift with purchase use case.
Check the math first
Subscriptions repeat, so a small give-away repeats too. Model the lifetime of a subscriber, not the first order:
- Gift with purchase for subscriptions
- Free shipping for subscriptions: box 1, then?
- Coffee subscription promotions
- Customer lifetime value on Shopify
Shopify's Help Center describes how subscriptions work on Shopify; read it before you decide which delivery gets which perk.
