Free Shipping Threshold for Shopify Stores
Offer free shipping above a cart value on Shopify: when it fits, how the Shipping discount tiers template works and the formula for choosing the line.
A free shipping threshold removes the shipping charge once the cart reaches a set value. It works on the shopper who is close to the line: a small add-on is cheaper than paying for the parcel.
When it fits
- Shipping cost is a visible reason shoppers leave at checkout.
- Your order values spread around where you would place the line, so some shoppers are one add-on away.
- You can afford the parcel at the order value that clears the line.
How the template builds it
The app's Shipping discount tiers template is described as "Discounted or free shipping above a cart value." Its example is free shipping over a set amount. Shopify's Help Center says its own free shipping discount can be limited to specific countries, which matters for far destinations.
To show shoppers how close the cart is to the line, the Progress bar template is described as "Show how close the cart is to a reward." Two further templates need a developer on the storefront side: "Landing page shipping" (free shipping only for shoppers from a landing page) and "Quiz bundle shipping" (free shipping on bundles created by a quiz).
Choose the line with the formula
The free shipping threshold calculator applies the formula from Free shipping threshold: the formula: the line is your shipping cost divided by your margin and the share of it you will give to the carrier.
